Kaolin Turmeric Mask
Self-care Sundays call for a little DIY pampering!
Oh man do I love a pampering sesh... it's been a while since I've been able to go for a facial so I decided to give this recipe a whizz. There are some pretty spectacular ingredients in this mask. I've chosen them all to help cleanse the impurities from my pores.
Kaolin clay is AMAZING and you can actually use it internally as well as topically on your skin! This recipes is literally so natural, you can eat it - no probs...
Topically for our skin, kaolin is 'da bomb' at cleansing our skin. It is an amazing agent to pull impurities from your pores without being too harsh. Did you also know that kaolin contains quartz? This makes for a hard-working, double-dutying mask/facial scrub!
Kaolin is super-gentle so can be used on most skin types. As with any new recipe you try on your skin, test a patch first before going the full shebang.
We've all heard the miraculous health benefits of turmeric lattes, right? WELP... it is also super-fricken-amazing for your skin health!
Turmeric oil is anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti-acne and according to a particular study, was able to significantly reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in a control group of women (SAY WHAAAAA?)
I used dōTERRA's Turmeric Oil (available from their US store).
I can't stress the importance of using raw honey in this recipe. It just means that you are using a pure product which has not been chemically refined.
Honey is such an affordable ingredient for DIY skincare and one that should be used more often. It is great for all skin types including sensitive. I am using honey in this recipe as a gentle exfoliator. If you've got acne honey is your new BFF.
APPLE CIDER VINEGAR
Like the honey before, make sure you're buying a good quality and organic brand. You want 'tha motha' in it - as in, the floaty bits.
ACV is acidic and astringent so if you have sensitive skin, lower the amount or replace with water.
I am adding ACV in this recipe as it is antibacterial and is an amazing exfoliator. ACV contains lactic acid which will help improve skin texture and any pigmentation issues you might have.
- 1 tbsp white kaolin clay
- 1/2 tbsp raw honey
- 1/2 tbsp ACV
- 1/2 tbsp water
- 1-2 drops turmeric essential oil
Mix all the ingredients together, you want a light paste so if needed, keep mixing more clay into the mix.
Once you've whipped up this bad boy, you want to spread a thin layer on your beautiful face. I'm not gonna lie, the ACV made me cry just a lil bit due to the acid so try and avoid your eye areas.
Wait 10-15 minutes then wash off the mask with some warm water.
As this mask contains honey, it won't dry out like other clay masks. You'll end up with a sticky-ish mask after the 15 minutes is up so if you need to use a face wash to get it all off, wipe gently!
Congratulations! You now look like a baby... remember to moisturise, moisturise, moisturise. Don't overdo this mask - once a week is more than enough especially with all the exfoliants.
